Top 5 Reasons Sylveon is NOT Trans

As you may well be aware, upon looking up "Sylveon" on Twitter you will see tweets claiming that Sylveon is a trans Pokemon. Most of what I've found is about Sylveon's colors being like the trans flag.

Here are our top 5 reasons why Sylveon is not trans.

1. The colors do not match and they mean nothing

Different shades of colors

First and foremost the colors are actually on different levels in the spectrum, they are not identical, nor the colors have any meaning, Red and Yellow colored Pokemon like Magmar and Scizor are communists? I don't think so. Not to mention the flag has a missing dark blue color, and shiny Sylveon has dark pink.

By the way, no single person or a group of people can claim a color or a combination of colors as belonging to them only, colors are available to everyone and anyone can use whatever combinations they want, no one can impose restrictions or say "if you use these colors then you're one of us", a lot of Pokemon are matching perfectly with other flags, Denmark and Voltorb for a quick example.

2. Eevee does not evolve into Sylveon by changing its gender

A Pokemon's gender is visible to the trainer from the time it hatched. If they intended Sylveon to represent a trans, Eevee would evolve by changing its gender, according to the definition of Transitioning it requires a gender change, if the Eevee is born as male it will stay a male, there is no transition, in other words, a newly hatched Eevee will have the same gender all the time regardless if it becomes a Sylveon, Glaceon, Flareon, Jolteon, Umbreon, Espeon, Leafeon or Vaporeon.

Furthermore, affection isn't something exclusive to trans people, affection can be between a child and their mother, it can be between a cat and a human, or two animals, and affection does not cause someone to become trans.

3. There is no evidence

If you have watched the Pokémon anime, or have played the generation 6 or more games, you will see there are no signs at all. Here is a list of episodes where Sylveon had major appearances, none of the episodes had any slight implication that Sylveon is trans, let alone a big one.

Remember the Eevee brothers from the anime? Rainer, Sparky, and Pyro were representing Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon respectively. Guess what? They have done the same thing for Sylveon, the human representation for Sylveon was a female Pokémon trainer (as stated here), nothing implied her being trans at all in the episode, they wouldn't miss this opportunity if Sylveon is trans, this episode was Sylveon's main series debut.

Penelope's adorable Sylveon

As for the games, you obtain Sylveon by playing Pokémon-Amie or Pokémon Refresh with an Eevee, it can evolve to Sylveon when it has at least two hearts of affection and be knowing a fairy type move, it does not evolve into Sylveon by selecting "Yes" in a dialogue asking you to accept the new gender of your Eevee, none of its Pokédex entries even imply its trans. Sylveon is the "Intertwining Pokémon" not the "Trans Pokémon".

4. Sylveon isn't the only feminine looking Pokémon

It is obvious, we had a lot of feminine looking Pokemon in previous generations, Glaceon? A male Gothita? And so on, therefore the argument that Sylveon is trans because its mostly male but it looks feminine is invalid, especially that it uses Eevee's gender ratio, which is the same case for all Eeveelutions.

5. All Sylveon are not trans in the daycare and during battle

If you put a male Sylveon with a female Pokemon with the Field egg group in the daycare, you will always get an egg, similarly, if you put a female Sylveon with a male Pokemon that belongs to the Field egg group, you will always end up with Eevees, Sylveon always acts true to its gender assigned to it since it was an Eevee and no surprise reveals, no gender changes, whether it is in the daycare or in battle (e.g. interacting with the move Attract or Cute Charm proc).

6. It's a children's game

Last but not least, Yes, whether you believe it or not, Pokémon is a child friendly game, the things the Pokédex says gets swept under the rug, and then nothing else but purity, friendship and innocence is there, the game basically spams you with friendship values towards you and your Pokémon, it has always valued the bond between a trainer and Pokémon, its not about viciousness and blood. Chances are they do not want to include gender issues in a children's game.
